What should I do if I smell gas?
If you smell gas, or suspect you may have a leak, it’s important to know what to do and act promptly, but only if it is safe to do so.
- Extinguish all naked flames, do not switch lights on or off, or operate anything that could create a spark.
- Ventilate the areas, opening doors and windows to allow the gas to disperse.
- Turn off any gas appliances if safe to do so and turn off the gas supply at the main valve.
- Evacuate the areas, moving to a safe distance upwind of the source of the leak, and do not return until it’s safe to do so.
If you do smell a leak, call us on 01347 238177 or outside of office hours, call our 24-hour emergency number: 07712 773 230.
